Bangladesh U23 v Hong Kong
7th December 2018, 10:00 IST
Southend Cricket Club, Karachi, Pakistan
The first match on this track between Bangladesh U23 and the UAE national team displayed the type of pitch that this is. The deck at the Southend is better for the batsmen and 300+ is likely to be a par score on this surface. And even then, it could be chased down.
Hong Kong started their campaign with a loss to Pakistan U23. The hosts batted first and put up a mammoth total of 366 in their allotted 50 overs. As you may have inferred already, the Hong Kong bowlers were spanked all over the park by the Pakistan U23 team.
With the bat, the Hong Kong team were just as terrible as they huffed and puffed their way towards defeat.
Meanwhile, the Tigers weren’t any great in their match against the UAE either. The Tigers were put in to field first as the UAE team made a formidable 267 in 49.4 overs.
The pitch was still a good track to bat on in the second innings but the Tigers failed to keep their own and fell to an embarrassing defeat to the Gulf nation.

My dream XI
Nurul Hasan Sohan is among the most talented players in the Bangladesh circuit. However, he hasn’t been as consistent as he would like and his duck in the first match is something he would like to improve on.
Since Bangladesh U23 are favourites for the next match – even though they were terrible in the first game against the UAE – it is only natural for three Bangladeshi batsmen to be on the team.
Mizanur Rahman was the best batsman for the U23 side against the UAE in the first game. He scored 43 runs from 62 balls and was the only one from the batting department who displayed any sort of determination.
Meanwhile, his teammate Zakir Hasan was poor in the first game but could bounce back against Hong Kong. Meanwhile, Saif Hassan didn’t play in the first game but could be drafted in after Bangladesh’s failure with the bat.
For the Hong Kong team, Nizakat Khan is their best batsman and he shall be in the team.
The all-rounder section is filled with Hong Kong players. Aizaz Khan might have been very expensive in the last game but he did take two wickets. Meanwhile, Raag Kapur is a decent batting all-rounder who can get runs in the top order.
Tanwir Afzal is the sole representative of Hong Kong in this team as he gave away only 21 runs in his 7 overs in the game against Pakistan, which is a commendable feat on a pitch like that.
The Tigers’ bowlers did well against the UAE. Shorfiul Islam got four wickets in his 10 overs. Partnering him will be Shafiul Islam and Khaled Ahmed.
While the former was expensive in the last game, he has experience at the senior level which could come in handy for his team. Khaled Ahmed, meanwhile, is a tall pacer rated highly by Tigers’ head coach Steve Rhodes.
Ahmed took three wickets but gave away 61 runs in his 9 overs last time around.
Captain and vice-captain: Mizanur Rahman and Nizakat Khan
Player to watch out for: Mizanur Rahman
The Bangladesh U23 opener was the only one from his team to show some application in the first game. Since the pitch is a batting paradise, it wouldn’t be wrong to think that he would do well in the next game.
